Yes, that’s right. My dog hates flamingos.

Previous posts have chronicled all the other animals on the TV that raise the ire of the ‘Little White Dust Mop Dog,’ but now we must add flamingos to the list of video screen creatures from which the home must be defended.

Yesterday there was a car commercial on the TV. I think it was for Honda. A sporty sedan drove about, always in profile, while the 70’s band ELO played a song that might have been entitled “Hold On To That Dream.” At least that’s what they kept singing in the chorus. Snappy upbeat music, car spinning its wheels and not really going anywhere, with – for reasons I don’t quite understand – lots of animals running and flying in parallel behind the car. Herds of gazelles jumped. Flocks of birds swooped. Pods of whales… Um… Podded?

Anyway, the many different types of animals, moving rapidly across the screen certainly seized the little dog’s attention. However, he didn’t start to bark and rush the TV until the flamingos appeared.

Flamingos are apparently the most threatening, or perhaps just the most detested, of televised avian interlopers in my home. On the other hand, they still seem to pale in doggy detestability to; Grizzley bears fishing, and the governor of California voicing his support of Prop 93 in a heavy Austrian accent.

Thank heavans that the election is over, and now my dog is only forced to defend the home from bears fishing. And now flamingos selling Japanese automobiles.
